application development www.VirtualEdmonton.comSomnia produced the City of Edmonton: City Hall Virtual Tour, providing visitors an opportunity to explore Edmonton City Hall from their computer. We managed the entire project including coordinating photography, 3D modeling, writing and audio recordings. The project was delivered online via a standalone
Virtual Edmonton website design at
www.virtualedmonton.com and also accessible from the City of Edmonton website.
One of the main targets for the project was junior high students across northern Alberta. We worked with a school coordinator to create a web based tool for teachers who either used the tour as a precursor to a field trip or in lieu of a physical trip to the facility.
The
Virtual Edmonton web application was built entirely in Flash, using XML to dynamically pull in content allowing the text, photos and other content to easily be updated without the need for a Flash developer. This includes the ability to add, move, edit and remove hotspots in the tour, all without editing the Flash source files.
The tour was recently expanded to include a separate Churchill Square tour involving a series of outdoor locations showcasing Edmonton's Churchill Square.
